Weather

I've been living in this city all my life. I have seen it change and transform.

But the change that has made a deep cut in me is the weather. Once an abode for summer vacations now faces pretty harsh summers. The cool January breeze that announces a gradual transition from winter to summer is now nearly non existent. It seems like summer all year long.

I remember the years, when Feb to May were the only months we didn't have to wear warm clothes. It used to be a period of freedom for us kids who hated the woollens. But now, I wish we have those special summer months instead of this one which seems to last all year around.  It seems too hot for clothes now, forget sweaters.

The first day of our new term in school in June it was always raining. Waiting for school buses and vans in that rain was common then. The early morning breeze, always so cold and and so fresh, made us want to cuddle back into the warmth of our beds. Those days though not so far in the past seem like a very distant memory, almost like a dream.

Why did this change happen? Why don't we've the long monsoons and short winters here anymore? What changed in a span of 15 years? Everyone knows. The widely popular word, Global warming.

We all know the cause but do we try to look for a remedy and work towards it? Some of us do. Only on June 5th though. It is "Environment Day" you see. After that we join the we "don't really care" group for the rest of the year. The very few people, who are trying to find a solution and asking for our help, are not noticed, or rather, ignored. But we won't change, will we? Not until it threatens out lives personally.

Let us see how long that takes, shall we? And hope its not too late then. Enjoy the few cold days that come our way for now. Who cares about the weather in the past or the future.
